Media personality, Tolulope Oniru-Demerun, aka Toolz, has shared a piece of advice to people who are planning to settle down. She noted that it is important for their in-laws to like them, or at least respect them.
Her statement was in response to her conversation with talkshow host Morayo Afolabi-Brown on The Morayo Show. In the video, Toolz revealed that her in-laws are her biggest cheerleaders.

She also went down memory lane and shared when she was about to get married to her husband, Capt. Tunde Demerun, and how her father-in-law held interesting conversations with her and asked her the kind of ring she wanted from his son.
Toolz’s comment got several reactions and it prompted her to respond to her critics on her social media pages on Wednesday, July 8.

The mother of two wrote, “I’ve seen the different takes on what I said on The Morayo Show and I still fully stand by it. I genuinely believe it’s important that your partner’s parents like you… or at the very least, respect you.
“Because if they don’t, it’s a battle the incoming partner rarely wins. Best-case scenario, your partner chooses you and ends up becoming estranged from their parents. And while “it’s us against the world” might sound romantic, that’s a heavy burden for any relationship to carry.”
Speaking further on the issue, she stated that the love from the in-laws does not have to be absolute but there should be mutual respect especially for the decisions the couple would make.

In her words, “I’m not saying your in-laws have to absolutely adore you or agree with every decision you make. That’s unrealistic. But they should respect you, respect your relationship, and respect the decisions you and your partner make together.
“Peace between your partner and their parents is a blessing. And when that peace extends to you as well, it makes life so much easier for everyone involved. Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk.”
