Several reactions have trailed the outfit that media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, aka Daddy Freeze, wore to the Service of Songs of the late Nollywood actor, Alex Ekubo.
According to Daddy Freeze, he was not aware that white was the dress code and he felt black was the normal colour worn to funerals. Hence, he and his wife chose to wear the color. He added that he was displeased with how the Service of Songs was conducted, especially with gospel singer Mercy Chinwo’s ministration. He claimed that she wanted to turn the Service of Songs to a concert.
However, Nollywood actor Mofe Duncan said that the Service of Songs was held according to what Alex Ekubo liked when he was alive. Therefore, Daddy Freeze’s opinion was out of place. He noted that the event was about the deceased, not about Daddy Freeze or any other person.
In Duncan’s words, “It was a night of worship because if you were listening or paying attention and not caught up with your desire to want to observe and rush back online to report things you had issues with, you would’ve heard when members of Alexx’s inner circle reiterated countless times that Alex loved to worship. So, a “concert” of worship as you expressed is exactly what Alex would’ve wanted.”
Speaking about Daddy Freeze’s ignorance of the dress code, Duncan noted, “You shouldn’t even have the temerity to voice your opinion because for starters, you didn’t adhere to the dress code. You wore black to an all white celebration of Alexx’s life, but each to their own…”
During the online drama, some netizens alleged that Daddy Freeze might have worn the black intentionally. However, the event was expected to be held the way the deceased wanted it, not according to the opinion of others.
